Real Writers is called Academic because it is designed to be like a workshop you would take at a big university, where the instructor would take seriously the fundamentals of literary techniques and straightforward criticism about member writing in order to understand those techniques. Real Writers is a literary workshop in which substantial literary ideas are developed in order to facilitate 'real' writing both in the form of literature and in related media. Any writer or artist could potential …

We are a committed group of writers that meet on Thrusday for 4-5 hours. We meet at a local coffee shop, share our work and do gut wrenching critiques. Primarily the group will be focused on creative writing (fiction). The main quality we seek - honest (no kiss ass) in depth critiques. Bring up to five pages (12 pt double spaced) and enough copies for everyone attending. New members can't submit the first time, but have to give critiques. Yes, it's a test. New members can only come to the Thrusd …
We are a group of writers of crime fiction, both short story and book length. We are all seriously writing for publication and most of us have been writing for many years. Our goals as a group are to polish our manuscripts before sending them to our agents or editors; keep the pages flowing; improve our craft, especially by learning from each others' strengths; and above all, support each others' goals as writers. We are keen and attentive readers, but we are also congenial and considerate. No m …
Hello. This is a social group for writers and artists (and creative people in general) who simply want to get together and share food, ideas and good conversation. This is not a work-focused group, although you're welcome to talk about whatever is on your mind. We'll meet at restaurants around Austin and will hopefully have some potlucks at members' houses and other locations. You don't need to be a foodie or gourmet cook to join. All you need to be is a writer/artist/creative type with a desire …
The Austin Writers Roulette features a different monthly theme and line up of artists who love to perform their original written works such as poetry, essays, spoken word, singer-songwriting, or excerpts from novels. Artists also have the opportunity to set up a vendor table at the roulette. Although the roulette is not an open mic, interested artists who would like to read for an upcoming event should first attend a roulette. And of course, performance art lovers are always welcome!

Once a month we gather for a low-pressure chance to socialize with other folks interested in writing science fiction, fantasy or horror. Topics tend to range from "why I'm here at this group and what I like to write" through specific questions about writing process and problems to discussions of sf/f/h works and debates on ideas of general interest relative to writing sf/f/h. We post an optional writing exercise, and if there are takers, we read and comment on their work. Occasionally we hold ha …

Whether you write professionally, are trying to get published, or would just like to hone your writing skills... this is the writing group for you …
We welcome non-writers, as well! We are a group of people who express our mess of words in short, perfunctory pulses. There is no room for cliché (and hardly any for adjective) in our work. We want to be moved by others, and we hope to do the moving from time to time. We encourage writing with truth, clarity, and passion, and love it when reciting borders on Slam. Come to watch, read, share, recite, laugh, and drink (beer or coffee, depending on the time of day). Don't come to feed us rainbows. …

Though you see my name over there in the left hand corner, you should know this is Mario's baby. If meetup could give me a way to do it he would be titled co-organizer not assistant. This was his idea and he's the perfect guy to run it. He believes in this group and he's working hard to get it done. If you have an interest in or are currently pursuing your screenwriting career, you won't …
