This group is a book club with a twist. It is a book club for writers. Why are some books popular? What makes them bestsellers? What can we as writers learn from these books? I started this book club because traditional book clubs are too vanilla for me. If you are a committed writer, then this meetup is for you. Each month, we will chose a work of fiction and examine it from the perspective of a writer (and not from the perspective of an English literature professor). The idea is to find inspir …

WAI is about helping artists form strong creative habits that will last a lifetime. The fundamental component of the program is a simple commitment: make the time to make art, five to ten hours a week. To support artists in this commitment, the group meets every other week for twelve weeks. Together, in a cross-genre group where fine artists, musicians, writers, photographers, and filmmakers all share our perspectives, artists commit to the completion of a project of their choice. In each meetin …
… Bring passages from novels, poems, short stories, essays, children's books, journalism, folklore, drama, scripture, criticism, speeches, history, anecdotes, screenplays, memoirs, anything celebrating words. Writers who want to read their own work are encouraged to do so; those who'd rather just listen without reading are also welcome. Some events we can devote to a theme (e.g. ghosts and gothic writing in October, opening passages), but much of the time it'll just be "pot luck."

This Reader's club is dedicated to reading books written by Canadian Authors. Books will be chosen in advance, so you will have plenty of time to read them. Books will be all genres (but mostly fiction). The only thing they will have in common is that the author must be Canadian. That doesn't mean we'll read only Margaret Atwood or Robertson Davies, but new Canadian Authors. Some will be from smaller publishers, some will be new writers. All books will be available at the book store or library.
There are no upcoming Meetups.
I want to connect authors with their readers. If you love books, and would love to meet your favourite authors, here's your chance!
