The critique group meets the 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month at 6:00 at the HEB Central Market on Westheimer. If you can't arrive until 6:30 that is okay.
We upload pages to the FILES area at least ONE WEEK prior to the meeting. Members will read the pages at their leisure, make notes and bring the notes to the scheduled meeting.
The group typically spends the first 30-45 minutes eating & conversing. Then we begin the process - we will draw straws to see whose story we will start with. We will discuss the story - good points & those that require work, and then we move on to the next set of pages.
Sometimes this can be a painful process as most writers will defend their every word. The secret is to listen to the comments and to be open to suggestions.
You don't have to change a word but you should consider if 2+ people have the same comment then there is reason to believe change is required.
NOTE: Please make sure you check your email or the Meetup calendar the day of the event. If there are no RSVPs no one will show up.

My critique group has been meeting twice a month for 17 years. Members arrive 6:00 - 6:30, eat dinner, then we begin discussing our notes on your pages. We used to be dedicated to screenwriting only. Now our members include novelists and short story writers.
Meetup has allowed us quite a bit of freedom. Read more
