Please share what you hope to get from this group, any thoughts on meeting content or format, your positive experiences or horror stories with writing groups or workshops that you hope to see or avoid here, and anything else you feel will contribute to the discussion of what this writers group will look, feel, and wobble like.

Thanks,

Randy

I am hoping to broaden my experiences and gather ideas and critique from others who share a love of a good story, whether it be in the form of prose or novel.. I have a handful of pieces of various stories stuck in my head, and I need to find that right way to get them out. Having others with a real interest in the process and creation with whom I can bounce ideas off of would be grand.

I have limited transportation, and time, due to my work schedule, so driving out to Poulsbo will not be very doable for me on a regular occasion. However, email does just as well for me, especially since I tend to be horribly shy. Especially when being given or being asked for critique (more so when I'm the one having to give criticism.. even if it is constructive!).

note: not sure if this is how I post to this but here goes:

I like the idea a round-table writers critique session. I've always learned a great deal that way.
Plus it gives a writer exposure.
If the group grows, perhaps we can encourage a couple of good (as in they are making money doing this) "agents" to come talk to us on how to secure "an agent". Perhaps an individual contest within our group could be established, with the two top winners havomg their writing critiqued by this group of agents.

I'd also like to see a bulletin board developed for posting various writing activities occurring in the area. Things like poetry readings... open literary mics... writers giving lectures at book stores. Perhaps a web site.

I'm hoping to get to know other writers and learn more about the process. I've had characters stuck in my head for years and my ideas have finally started to make it to the page, but I'm new to this and unsure of myself. While I have the mechanics down, I have a hard time killing off my internal editor, and I hope to learn from more experienced writers how to handle that. Publishing is a distant dream for me - my first goal is to simply complete a story I'm proud of. Then...we'll see!

I'm in Port Orchard and would be happy to carpool anytime. I'm very familiar with the library and it would be on my way to anywhere farther into Kitsap.

Thanks! That would be great :)

I like the idea of having an area in here for local events such as readings, author talks (they have these often at the library), etc. That way we can keep our exposure to other sources open and maybe even go as a group :)

I would hope to meet other people with this similar interest, in any form. Exploring creative writing in ways and methods as of yet unknown to me. I do not want to feel intimidated by what I have written, it is a major way of how I reflect and work out all the kinks and loose ends in my head. And I don't feel like I would get intimidated this way in this group. I would hope that by joining this group, I could change my muse. I used to write because I was depressed. Now I want to write to create rather than to vent. And mostly why I joined, I have no idea if my writings would be considered appreciated. So, I wish to offer some up.

I am looking for inspiration, validation, growth and a sense of artistic community which I have found to be somewhat lacking here in Kitsap County. I would like to set more goals for myself as a writer and hopefully consider moving out of my comfort zones. I love learning new skills and I am really looking forward to this group!
