Kitsap County Writers Group
|
A writers group is starting up in Kitsap County! Our goal is to gather a group of creative, motivated writers who live in Kitsap County (or are willing to travel to Kitsap County), to meet on a regular basis and to hold review and advice sessions. The group will be a source of encouragement, motivation, constructive criticism and learning. I'm waiting until May 20 for people to join, then we'll see where everyone lives and come to a group consensus on where and when to meet. Until then, feel free to post what you hope to get out of the group, and any thoughts or questions on the proposed logistics outlined in the meeting notice below. Also, please tell us something regarding your preferred style of writing and your general location (at whatever level you are comfortable with), either on your profile, a shout, or in the Messages, that will help as we move towards defining format, meeting locations, etcetera for the group.

Our next meeting:
Kitsap County Writers Group May Meeting
Here are the proposed logistics of the group, but this is just a starting point to get the conversation rolling. I encourage all members to contribute their opinions and ideas on any of these matters:
WHERE AND WHEN
We will meet once a month. Tentatively in Poulsbo, since it's about 15 minutes from most places (Kingston, Silverdale, Bainbridge, etc). Read more

"G'day Mates, I'm a retired Navy guy living in West Bremerton with my dog "CG". As a long-time "aspiring writer" I'm eager to pass the "published writer" milestone. Have pen, will travel, preferably somewhere between Port Orchard and Poulsbo. "
-
"Hello, my name is Scott and I just moved here from Anchorage, AK after graduating with a BA in English. I don't know my way around yet, so it might be hard to make a meet. I am currently staying in Bremerton and looking to make a few friends. "
-
"My name is Thaydra. I live in Port Orchard and work as an assistant at the library here in town. I use to write quite a bit in high school- mainly poetry. "
-
"Please share what you hope to get from this group, any thoughts on meeting content or format, your positive experiences or horror stories with writing groups or workshops that you hope to see or avoid..."
-
"I'm devastated that I only have 250 measely characters with which to introduce myself. I am a friend of Randy's. I enjoy reading and writing and write at least a little every day."
-
"Hello: I live in Gig Harbor so I too would prefer - if possible - a meet locaitn closer to the bridge than Silverdale (Port Orchard perhaps ?). In any case I look forward this first meeting (will post demographics, profile, and picture later). "
-
"I proposed Poulsbo, since it is more central for North Kitsap, but suspect we may end up in Silverdale, especially if a large number of members turn out to live there and in Bremerton. :)"
-
"Since you asked, I'd love it if our meeting were closer to South Kitsap - I don't think I even know where Kingston is! I work in Tacoma, so I need to tack on a half-hour commute to get to a meeting. I'm most familiar with Port Orchard, but I know Bremerton/Silverdale and Poulsbo a bit as well. I volunteer to bake for any meetings!"
-
"Welcome to the group, Sue! Please feel free to share your preferences and opinions on any of the logistical issues. Thanks, Randy"
-
"Randy - Thanks for creating this group! I'm looking forward to the first meeting. -- Sue"
-
"I'm finally writing after many years of thinking about it, and I hope to connect with other writers as I go through the process. My work keeps me around young people, so I'm most interested in writing for young adults."
-
"This is the place to continue the conversation between monthly Meetups. Get to know your local Meetup community, ask questions, answer questions, talk about your last get-together--it's up to you. We..."
-
"Hiya'. I have experience as copy editor on a college paper, a short stint as an editorialist for the Seattle Times, and several minor sales of fiction. My genre of choice is Fantasy and Sci Fi, though I have plans to write general fiction. "
-
"The Kitsap County Writers Group (name may change) is in its creation stage. My goal is to gather a group of creative, motivated writers who live in Kitsap County (or are willing to travel to Kitsap County),..."
