Meeting Description

Who

Anyone who writes creatively, whether as a hobby or a more serious pursuit

Why

We are a supportive and friendly group, led by Manish - currently studying for an MA in Creative Writing and bursting to share what he's learning with others...

Organized by

"We have the private function room booked for our meeting"
--Manish

Details

Although not compulsory, everybody is encouraged to bring some of their own creative work to read aloud to the group (anything up to 2000 words). People will then have an opportunity to share their ideas on what they have heard, providing constructive feedback the writer can take away with them.

We have exclusive hire of a comfortable and private pub dining room. Food is available from the bar (optional).

The group is organised with the support of My Cultural Life.

Who Attended

It's estimated that 14 people attended.

  • Ben
"I thought the stated aim of constructive but honest feedback was achieved totally - not always the case with writing groups."

  • Robin
"An eclectic mix of people and professions with at least one script writer, one published writer and somebody who ran a Creative Writing group. We were actively encouraged to offer constructive criticism of each others work which is a very good thing and there were a couple of exceptional writing efforts. "

"Good meeting - well done Manish. Nice to meet you all and enjoyed my first 'sharing' experience. : ) Looking forward to seeing how some of those pieces develop too!"

  • Iain
"A great night with a wide range of writers. Manish was the perfect host and the evening was well structured. I was impressed, not only with the work the writers shared but with the quality of the feedback and critiscism. Looking forward to the next one."

  • Robert Grant
"Just the right numbers and a good opportunity to share your work and receive immediate feedback and critique. Also, there is a good mix of styles and genres of work, so the feedback has greater weight given that not everybody will be familiar with every type of work brought to the meetup and they will be seeing things with fresh eyes and ears."
