The picture is recent and I'll have a sign on the table.

The Borders Books store is kind enough to let us use their space for our meeting. The store closes at 9:pm so our agenda will be to end the meeting at 8:45. From my experiences at other meetings, language will be restricted when reading aloud. I will explain at the beginning of the meeting. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ ALOUD TO ATTEND THIS MEETING, You do not have to bring anything, you do not have to sign anything. You may still participate in reading and critiquing the work of others.

During the first few meetings we will try to decide as a group if we need to split into subgroups or separate meetings.

Typically those who have something prepared in writing may read it for critique, but should bring copies for other members to follow and mark with feedback. It helps if copies are typed, single-sided, and double spaced*. Initially, 5 copies to pass should be adequate*. All copies should be returned to the writer at the end of the discussion. Those who have properly prepared copies will be allowed to read first.

*properly prepared

As the group grows, as many as 12 copies may be more appropriate. Readings should be limited to ten minutes and will be followed by discussion of the writing for the author's benefit. As the group grows, the allowable time may diminish to 4 or 5 minutes. Discussion time will also have to be limited.

No one's writing is perfect so don't hesitate to bring your work. Helping each other and learning is what its all about.

See you Wednesday, May 28th.

Shel and her son Zachary both read. Her friend Shane participated in critique. He is a singer and song-writer.

In addition to listed members, we also had Kathy and Paul from Greeneville, KY visit us on their return from Nashville. We'll look forward to some of their poetry in the future. Both provided good critique.

I really enjoyed this meeting. It was the first time I've read aloud to anyone; it gives a different and valuable perspective. Thanks to everyone for the comments and I really enjoyed hearing all of your work. Shel, I enjoyed hearing your song and wish I had more valuable comments for you. Sylvia, I think you've got something with Dewey as a great, fun character. Heidi, I'd love to read your story and thanks for the comments. Dave, I'll talk to you later.

Sylvia Bergman was encouraged from our last meeting and brought her first writing efforts to the table. She did a great job and has a good start on a novel. Everyone wants to read more of it. Thanks Sylvia

Sorry, I do not have a photo of myself, but I hope to get one eventually. I will be returning from my trip to the state of Washington in time for the next meeting, if all goes well. Does anyone know where we might get our hands on some used college English grammar and composition books? I think they would be very handy for our writers, who may not already have one. I use mine all the time to review rules of punctuation.

Who attended?

    •  The work shared was really thought-provoking and I left with the buzz of several new characters in my head. I really enjoyed the literary discussion. Can't wait for the next one!
    •  Despite what seemed like a slow day at the mall and at Borders, we still had a pretty good turnout. Nine persons attended the meeting and five read something that they had brought. Everyone participated in critique. Thank you all.

This was my first meeting, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I truly enjoyed it! I do think it went a tad long though. Other than that I got a lot out of the meeting and will definately plan on being at the next one! :)
