This is an associated group of the original Suffolk County Writers Workshop, based on Long Island.

Like the original, S.C. Writers Workshop 2 is a group of fiction writers who get together once-a-month to critique each others work. Essentially, we discuss what we like about a piece, and what we think can be improved.

The only difference: we meet on the second Monday of the month.

The emphasis is on nurture: how one writer can help another via thoughtful comments and suggestions.

Everyone's manuscripts (2,500 words max) are traded via email prior to the meeting, then printed out and "marked up" with comments and suggestions.

If you're a fiction writer looking for a close, ongoing appraisal of your work, you'll probably get a kick out of this meeting. Every genre of novel and short story writing is welcome.

We meet at at Panera Bread (Bakery and Cafe) (5191 Sunrise Highway, Bohemia, NY 11716, (631) 589-1988). You'll find Panera on the east end of the K-Mart Shopping Plaza, across from Old Navy.

What members are saying

Worth doing. Actually is going to change my life, when you consider the merits of what we're doing. I'll be O.S. ...

—A former member

Writing is a lonely profession. It's important to realize that there are others doing the same work.

“I have finished one historical novel based on the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster and am one-third through my second, a YA novel set in 1948. I am having difficulty connecting with a "legitimate" agent or a publisher. Looking for advice on this step.”

“I have been writing novels in "solitary confinement" (of my own homes) for too many years, and I realize I need a supportive community to push through to a new level. I want to be around other people who love writing as much as I do.”
