Rainy Nights Writers' Circle
|
Join our writing critique and discussion group in Northeast Portland. This group is for serious writers, who are willing to commit themselves to an ongoing process. It will be limited to ten to twelve writers, meeting two or more times a month. For purposes of this group, a serious writer is defined as someone who has work in progress, is willing to commit to attending regularly, and has a goal of being published eventually. You should also be familiar with a supportive critique style (ie., respect and checking your ego), and willing to learn and to help others learn. Poets: If there are enough poets interested, we can try to have a seperate poets group, but I do not like to mix poetry critique with prose, as many prose writers do not understand or appreciate the poet's craft. Facilitated by Duane Poncy, editor for The Habit of Rainy Nights Press and Elohi Gadugi Publications. We see the group operating democratically - a mutual aid society, as opposed to a workshop. Longer piece. A bit more graphic than the others.

The only formed piece I'm going to share right now. I don't know if people are fond of the sonnet form... Thoughts on how the form itself is handled?

Something I wrote about a friend in February. It's a little bit longer and a little rant-y.

Very short poem. Thoughts on form and imagery?

Perfect Timing, a comedy sci-fi from a screenplay that attempts to both enlighten and entertain. Look for lapses in clarity, where it's too fast, where it's too slow, definition of character, and anything else that comes to mind.
