Suffolk County Writers Workshop
|
This is a workshop for a group of fiction writers who get together once-a-month to critique each others work. Essentially, we discuss what we like about a piece, and what we think can be improved. The emphasis is on nurture: how one writer can help another via thoughtful comments and suggestions. Everyone's manuscripts (2,500 words max) are traded via email one week prior to the meeting, then printed out and "marked up" with comments and suggestions. If you're a fiction writer looking for a close, ongoing appraisal of your work, you'll probably get a kick out of this meeting. Every genre of novel and short story writing is welcome. Generally, the meetings are at 7 p.m, every fourth Tuesday of the month at Starbucks in Oakdale (4577 Sunrise Highway, Oakdale, NY 11769, (631) 218-3179). The next meeting is May 27. (If this month's meeting is full, check out Suffolk County Writers Workshop 2, also on Meetup.com. Same recipe, different night.)
