On Sunday January 27, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Pomegranate Books, we will hold an open mic contest with the winner to be decided by audience vote. The winner will receive a cash prize, and anyone can enter to read. Newcomers are welcome.

All entries will put one dollar in the pot to have a chance to read. Six finalists will be drawn randomly to read their 10-minute writing sample to the group. The best reading (as voted on by the audience) wins the accumulated money in the pot.

Each reading must be under 10 minutes, and must be your own work (i.e. you can't read a section from someone else's novel or poem). So bring a 10-minute section of your writing to read to the group, one dollar to enter into the pool, and you could be voted the winner by your peers.

Additionally, we will start things off with a guest author discussion and reading by newly published Matthew Peterson. Matt's first novel Paraworld Zero has just been published by Creative Windstorm, and we'll talk about how he sold it to them.

I'm looking forward to this meeting. I would love to share my book with the group. What a wonderful way to get instant feedback. Thank you Stacey for this opportunity. I am also looking forward to hearding what your invited author has to say. You always have the most interesting people visiting with us.

This looks interesting. I plan to try to be there.

Who attended?

  • 20 attendees
    •  One of the best events. I learned so much from the guest about how to go from "zero to 60" in a hurry! Also enjoyed the readings; so much talent in our group! Thanks, Stacey, for continuing to organize outstanding events.

       I loved it!
    •  This was a high energy gathering from the start. Matthew Peterson was clear and to the point on his experience in getting published and his experience with publicity. His reading was very entertaining, and kept your interest, plus wanting to hear more. The open-mic contest, to read original works of the writers, was an added shot of excitment and pleasure. The readings were all fresh, and with a lot of good topics. It helped to make the group bond a bit, which was really nice. Thanks Stacey, for all the creative ideas that you put into our meetings each month. You have set our standards high, and kept us eager to come back to learn more. Juliana
