Me, too, Moondance! I'm driving from Charlotte, so it would be helpful to have an idea of how long the event will be. Thanks and looking forward to it!

When is it scheduled to end? I'm trying to make plans to meet a friend afterward. Thanks!

Amelia, there is no cost to attend this event (in fact, most of the events that I organize are free [a couple of the assistant organizers charge fees from time to time, but I rarely do]). For this event, the best things to bring are 1) an open mind, 2) a good ear for listening, 3) something to take notes with, and 4) a few good questions for these successful memoir authors about their writing and publishing process.

    •  At first I was disappointed because Haven Kimmell was ill. I needn't have been. Eliane Neil Orr was insightful, funny and helpful. Stacy asked great questions and led the conversation well. Thank you to all involved.
    •  I have written a completed manuscript that is currently back to my editor for a second critique. she thinks, and so do I, that I have an interesting story. My next step is to go to publishing. I also liked the fact we were given a handout on Marketing, because that is the next step after Publishing.
    •  I love this group. Y'all asked such wonderful questions, and Elaine was extraordinary. It seems like everyone of these events we do, I feel like I grow as a writer and as a human being. Y'all are awesome, and I'm looking forward to 2009.
    •  Elaine's loss of place experience and descriptions are gut-wrenching, compelling, and inspirational.
    •  The speaker was interesting and it was great to see so much interest in memoir writing. It was also good to meet other writers that I haven't seen in a while.
    •  she had a very interesting life. the problem was we were just coming off of the NCWN conference and were tired.
    •  I am writing my memories. What a wild ride!
    •  I thought the advice the writer had to say about how to go about memoir writing was very useful; thanks.
    •  I could really resonate with Elaine and her healing process for her writing.
    •  Almost everything Elaine said about writing resonated with my own experience, so that part was validating. However, I think getting published is such a personal experience--every one's experience is different and there is a bit of luck involved--that it is more difficult to describe or predict the steps.

       The Q&A was fabulous.
    •  I thought the Memoir Writing meetup was a great opportunity to listen to a great author. I am thrilled that she took the time to really be open and honest concerning writing. Many, if not all, of my questions were answered.
