On Thursday August 30 at 6:30 PM at the Cameron Village Regional Public Library, NC State professor and author Stacey Cochran will moderate a panel discussion with authors J.D. Rhoades, Alex Sokoloff, and Vicki Hendricks. The topic of the discussion will be "How to Get Published, How to Get a Literary Agent" but we will also discuss the subjects of writing the break-out novel, the differences between mysteries and thrillers, and other topics related to the craft of writing.

Alex and J.D. are published with St. Martin's Press and are represented by Trident Media Group and Vicki's novels have been published by St. Martin's and Serpent's Tail.

You can come just to listen, or you can come to ask questions. This may be the single best opportunity this year to hear three authors talk about what you need to do to get a literary agent and to get your first book published.

    •  It was quite inspiring to be among so many writers. I'm looking forward to future events!
    •  Great synergy between authors. Stacy led interesting discussion. Good balance panel and questions
    •  Wow. Fabulous group. A great job by Stacey in putting this together! I can't wait to see the video!
    •  I thought it was a blast! Thanks, everyone, for coming.
    •  Content was great. I loved the insights the authors offered. I know you were filming, but the delay, not starting with the two authors present on time, was disrespectful of the audience. I know you were in a difficult situation, but the agenda seemed to be ?let?s get this film down for future publicity?, rather than let?s respect those attending. The filming was not advertised on the meetup website posting?perhaps should have been.
    •  Terrific event. The authors gave useful and interesting information.
    •  Wonderful, the event was organized excellently, the authors were very candid about agents and their publishing experiences. The group members were a friendly and expressive.
    •  This was probably one of the more comprehensive panels I've heard abou the "real world" of being a published author.
    •  This is the first event I have attended. I gleaned a few nuggets, but less than I'd hoped. Actual discussion about getting an agent was limited. Would have appreciated more specific pointers about how to find an agent and how to package material for consideration. Not discouraged, though; will continue to attend when possible.
    •  Too little coverage on the subject. The topic was mostly on other things.
    •  The speakers were great and the information was helpful. It would've been better only if speakers focused more on main topic and if other genres were discussed more (much time spent on mysteries and horror).
    •  I came away with some good tips that I will use once I am done with my novel. I think the best tip was just that; wait until I am done before I start worrying about an agent and publishing.
