Raleigh Write 2 Publish's own Stacey Cochran and Jon Batson will participate in a panel discussion at Quail Ridge Books & Music on Sunday April 29, 2007 starting at 3:00 PM. Other panelists will include Sarah Shaber, Quail Ridge manager Sarah Goddin, and one staff member from Lulu Press. The focus of our discussion will be on weighing the pros and cons of traditional publishing versus self-publishing.

There will be ample time for questions from the audience, and newcomers are completely welcome. This is a great opportunity to learn about different perspectives regarding how you should publish your own book.

If you are a writer interested in publishing your work, this is a great event for you.

A booksigning will follow the discussion, and anyone who wants to join us for dinner afterwards at T. K. Tripps is welcome to come.

    •  I would have liked a little more time for the panel to share their thoughts by having pre-submitted ?'s by audience members written on cards (with maybe 10 chosen by the moderator of the discussion, rather than by raising of hands. . .so often when the audience is given the opportunity to ask a ?, they forget that a ? begins with Who, What, When, Where, Why, or How; instead voicing a comment, irrelevant to most in the audience, taking up valuable time. While it's not the moderator's fault, perhaps explaining to the audience that a panel discussion regarding publication options is not a 'workshop' on writing. A vast majority of people have been told, "You should write a book," it doesn't mean we all have the tools to do so. Having ?'s delivered the without being screened places the panel members on the spot. Of course, it's always easy to play Monday morning quarterback. Just a couple suggestions for future meet-ups. I do a good deal of public speaking, I've been there.
    •  Great panel... good job of showing both sides, the pros and cons of traditional and self-publishing
    • Stacey Cochran (+2 guests)
Amazing turnout! Awesome discussion! The audience questions were terrific and intelligent.
    • Penney D (+1 guest)
Various viewpoints were shared and there was sufficient time for questions.
