Welcome wordsmiths to the Dallas Writers Meetup Group!
You are joining an amazing group of writers from all over the metroplex who come together regularly to exchange creative ideas, share work, critique, lend support and network.
The writing varies as much as our members, from fanciful fairy tales to no-nonsense non-fiction to sobering screenplays. Some are published; others are just getting started. No matter where you are in your literary journey, you will find this to be nurturing and inspiring meeting of the minds.
The DWMG meets twice a month, the forth Monday of each month and again for a reading (the date is announced in our calendar). In addition, we have special speakers and events from time to time.
The group is what you make of it. Some choose to be highly active and put their work out there. There are others who are shy and prefer not to share. I have received emails and had conversation asking if both were okay, and they are. Do what makes you feel comfortable and take what you need from the group.
However, I highly recommend that you keep in mind the group is only as good as you give. Does that mean you have to post work monthly? No, not at all, but don't forget to be there, read and critique and be part of the message boards from time to time.
Last but not least, R.S.V.P. Once you join and check out the boards and learn about other members, go to the Event section. There you will find a listing of upcoming events. We want to know if you are coming or not. Mark yes, no or maybe so. Even if you are sure you can't come, it helps me to plan the event I know.
Most importantly, enjoy! This group has a lot to offer and each member brings a world of knowledge and experience to the group. We all look forward to seeing you at the next Dallas Writers Meetup!
